Autumn and Lavender
Share
Hello Autumn. The season of cosy jumpers, colourful leaves and me pretending I’m far more organised than I actually am!
I was feeling very smug having got my soaps made for the rest of this year… when we landed a lovely big order.

Lordington Lavender near Chichester have asked me to make 500 bars of soap using their very own lavender essential oil, grown lovingly for the last 25 years. It is absolutely divine. The smell is definitely lavender, but on another level entirely. John found me some larger moulds and off I went to the soap shed to make, make and make a bit more. I’m really rather pleased with myself.
In between batches of lavender soap, I thought I’d make John a ginger cake. John is very much a cake person. I found the recipe and scurried off to the kitchen, only to return to the living room to raid the remote control for its batteries just to make the kitchen scales function. All went well and the cake went into the oven… until I noticed two eggs sitting on the side. Hmm, I wondered, checking the recipe again. Ooops. The cake came out of the oven, went straight back into the bowl, and I quickly mixed in the eggs. Fingers crossed, I returned said cake to the oven and waited. I have to say, it was perfect. So if anyone needs any advice on cake making, give me a shout.
It’s Back!

Yes, it’s that time of year when we make Winter Spice soap. This is the one made with mulled wine and essential oils of orange, nutmeg, clove and cinnamon. Some are wrapped in festive greaseproof paper and the rest in our usual luxury packaging. An absolute favourite for this time of year — but we’ve only made 120. When it’s gone, it’s gone.
Gift Sets
This year we also have a selection of gift boxes.
• A smart black box that can hold up to four items — soaps or tins, you choose.
• A second box containing our luxury shave bar and a large massage bar. The shave bar is different from the normal body and face wash bar. It has the addition of goat’s milk, aloe vera, bentonite clay and menthol crystals. Shave bars need smaller bubbles to help with razor glide. It’s a really refreshing bar for the face, legs, underarms etc.
• The third box has a large massage bar (different to the other one) and a candle.
We are also contemplating a fourth gift box which would be a larger tin — we just have to decide what to put into it. Any suggestions, please shout.
If you’ve made it this far, you deserve a medal or at least a very good bar of soap. Thanks for reading, wishing you a gentle start to autumn and a lovely October ahead.
