Bubbles, Urea and a Dash of British Weather
Is it just us, or has the weather decided to play a little joke? One minute we’re planting out the garden in glorious sunshine, the next we’re hovering over the heating switch again. Was that… Summer? Already?!
A Little Soap Lab Update
We’ve been busy behind the scenes working with a lovely podiatrist in Sunbury-on-Thames, who asked us to create a foot cream with 10% urea, a brilliant ingredient for keeping dry, cracked heels soft and happy.
Good news: she loved it!
Even better news: she’s now asked us to go bigger and bolder with a 25% urea version.
So what’s all the fuss about urea?
It’s actually something your body naturally produces (clever stuff!), but in skincare, it’s made in a lab for purity and safety—but it’s identical to the natural version
10% urea creams
Perfect for daily use
Hydrate, smooth, and support the skin barrier
25% urea creams
Much stronger, more of a “treatment”
Break down thick, hardened skin (think serious heel care!)
Because 25% is quite powerful, it’s usually reserved for professional use—so you won’t see us selling it!
A Bit of Website Magic
We’ve noticed our online sales picking up recently—very exciting!
We’d love to say it’s pure magic… but it might actually be thanks to Richard from Aspireshire, who’s been working his SEO wizardry for the past 6 months. Think clever wording, backlinks, Google tweaks, all the mysterious things that make the internet tick.
50 Reviews & Counting
We’ve also hit 50 reviews on our website!
Huge thank you to every single one of you who took the time to leave feedback, it really does mean the world (and yes, Richard told us we needed those too… he was right again).
Your Payment Security
We have had an online customer ask why there wasn’t anything to check to not save your bank card details. We have been in touch with Shopify and this is what they have said
‘When you shop with us, your payment card details are never stored by our store or our ecommerce platform. We use Shopify to power our checkout, and Shopify does not retain your bank card information after your purchase is complete. If your card details appear pre-filled at checkout, this is because your own device or browser has saved them locally to make future shopping quicker and more convenient — this is a feature managed entirely by your device, not by us. You can review or remove saved payment details in your browser or device settings at any time. Your security and peace of mind matter to us, and we want you to feel confident every time you shop with Homegrown Soaps’
A Personal Note
Some truly positive news. John has finished chemo, and both the lung and brain cancers have significantly shrunk.
Next step: immunotherapy every three weeks for the next couple of years. And if anything tries to make a comeback… well, in the words of Dr Attia: We’ll just blast it!
He’s already feeling so much better and even made it to Farnham Market at the end of April. absolutely loved seeing so many familiar faces.
Coming Soon…
Part of Richard’s homework is a small project which will benefit all who read this newsletter. Bear with me as I am a tech dinosaur and it may well take a little longer than I think – like most things actually!
Thanks so much for sticking with us (and reading this slightly epic newsletter!).
As always, we appreciate you more than you know.
Bubbles and Suds,
Laura (Chief Soapslinger) & John (Sidekick)
