Welcome to August, Hops, Starry Nights and Syria
Share
Phew – what a sizzler of a month! That heatwave may have had us melting like a bar left on the windowsill, but guess what? It’s been brilliant for soap sales! Sweaty people = soap success.
Urghh!!! We have had some soapy disasters though. I thought that I shouldn’t put the hot blanket on to ‘cook’ the soaps because of the weather being so hot. If the soaps get too hot they can ‘volcano’ and crack. Oh so wrong!!! The soaps didn’t gel properly, and didn’t want to come out of their moulds. When I did manage to prise them out they were crumbly and just not good. I went back to putting them on the hot blanket and cuddling them up with the duvet and guess what? Happy soaps. Who’d have thought eh?
Best-Selling Soap of the Month?
Drumroll please... Salt Water Revival – the one in the tin – 22 to be precise! It definitely has the summer vibe. Made with Sea Salt, Sea Kelp and a top note of Sandalwood.
Back by Popular Demand….You asked (loudly), we listened! Two of our classics are making a soapy comeback:
Starry Starry Night – aka the black one!
Made with detoxifying charcoal and soothing porridge oats, it’s basically a spa treatment in a bar. Charcoal acts like a magnet, drawing out impurities, excess oil and toxins from pores (and maybe bad vibes?), while oats are a natural skin soother and make great bubbles – the batch of 17 I made have already sold out so the next batch will be cured and ready for sale in approximately 5-6 weeks.
Hops U Like – it’s foamy, it’s fabulous, and it’s back! This one has ground hops in for a gentle exfoliation, and can soothe irritated and inflamed skin. Hops are said to protect against environmental damage and potentially combat acne. Hops also have a moisturising effect and makes a great lather – No wonder we have been asked for these two great soaps again. This one should be available ……… as soon as the packaging stickers arrive – next week.
Shampoo Ideas Brewing...
We've been doing a little hair-raising research and found out that rosemary essential oil may help with hair growth! So, we’re dreaming up a new shampoo bar that smells fab and gives your follicles some love. Watch this space...
About That Aleppo Soap...
Many of you have asked about Aleppo soap – and while we LOVE your curiosity, we’ve hit a few hurdles:
- We’re not in Syria
- Laurel Berry Oil costs a small fortune
- The traditional Arabic seal is a beautiful detail, but… Arabic isn’t quite our forte
- And we don’t (yet!) have a giant floor to pour soap on and leave overnight
But Wait – Something Just as Lovely is Coming...
We’re creating a 100% Olive Oil "Castile-style" Soap with soothing lavender. Cold-processed like all our soaps, but this one needs a loooong nap (12 weeks curing time!).
We’re making it a little larger, with a special stamp, so it feels extra luxurious.
Bonus? It's super versatile! Use it for:
✔️ All over body wash
✔️ Washing pets
✔️ Cleaning dishes and laundry
✔️ Stain removal
✔️ Makeup brush cleaning
✔️ Even fruit & veg washing!
Expected release: Late October/November, pending assessment. Trust us – it’s worth the wait.
Soapy History Snippet
Did You Know?
Romans weren’t exactly soap fans – they bathed in oil and scraped off the grime with strigils (fancy curved scrapers). But archaeologists just discovered a soap factory in Pompeii, so they must have somewhat loved it... for laundry, anyway!
